Franny and Ryan, who come from a fashion designer family, chose minimalistic, modern wardrobe pieces. It was a catwalk-watchers paradise, with reports from Alexander Wang (wearing a gown that is the same as one of the’s favorite brides Kristi wore), Prada Dries Van Noten & Saint Laurent.
Franny and her mother (owner Amato New York) designed the coolest trendy flower veil and gloves for the entire party.

Our Love Story
Franny and Ryan first met on the Columbia River in the Portland, Oregon, sailing community. They had raced against each other for two months on the Columbia River before they went out together. The couple’s third date was at a Willamette Valley wine harvest, where they picked grapes and pressed the juice. They then camped in the vineyard during a Harvest Supermoon. Ryan brought home barrels of wine to age, and the wine itself was served at their wedding as part of the wine ceremony.
Franny and Ryan were engaged ten months later, on Warren St., in Hudson, New York. Ryan proposed in front of many people on the small town’s main road. The next day, the two went to Brooklyn, New York, where they chose the stones for the engagement rings together at the Mociun Studio.
Dress & Attire
The bride wore an elegant fishline dress by Alexander Wang, a handmade train and veil made by her and her mother, and gold platform heels designed by Saint Laurent.
The bride’s family accessory business, Amato New York, provided gloves for all the women and kids at the wedding. Bride and bridesmaids carried dogwood and eucalyptus flowers, a Pacific Northwest local bounty.
The groom wore an ivory shawl collar wool dress by Dries van Noten and brogue polished leather shoes by Prada.
The Destination & Location
Franny and Ryan were married in Portland, Oregon, where they currently live, during the height of spring, when trees are in full bloom. They wanted to share their love of Portland with loved ones that had never been there before. Photon is a loft space with skylights and 20-foot-high ceilings that also serves as a photo studio for one of the couple’s dearest friends. It was an obvious decision the moment they walked in. Seeds of clay decorated the space using branches of flowering trees around the city. This included dogwood flowers on the tree in Franny’s and Ryan’s front yard.
The Photographer
Davis Hilton has a beautiful style. He and his assistant Kai captured every moment, from the knot-tying ceremony to the props used in the Father of Bride’s Speech and when Bailey entered the aisle. It was a sweet and spontaneous event! He did a fantastic job capturing everyone in front of the reception venue. It was a huge undertaking and a great success because of him.
The Ceremony
Ardor natural wines facilitated the wine ceremony room’s business. The bride and groom harvested the wine on their third date under the supermoon. The bride’s friends circulated the room, telling the story of harvest and giving gold thread bracelets to all the guests as a hint of the thread ceremony, which would take place later.
The orchestral duo performed “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen during the procession of the close family members and the wedding party. Bailey, the English Cream Retriever of the couple, then sang “Something” by the Beatles as the bride’s father led her down the aisle.
Three poets close to the couple read poetry from Paolo Coelho and Mary Oppen, respectively. The poet also dedicated a poem. The couple read their vows. Next, they had a blessing of hands, a ring, and a knot ceremony. All the bridal party tied two golden threads together using a square knot.
Unique Details
The dogwood flowers that the flower girl, the bride’s niece, used to decorate the aisle came from the tree in front of the bride and groom’s house. The lavender thrown on the couple after they returned down the aisle together as husband and wife also came from plants outside their house.
The bride created invitations, including hints about the gold thread that would be used during the ceremony. She and her mother made the bride’s train and veil. Amato New York, the family business of the bride’s mother, made her gloves. The groom’s natural wines business, Ardor Wines, provided the wines.
These details made the wedding special and connected the couple’s lives.
The Reception
The cake, a coconut cake with coconut buttercream icing, was made by Dream Cakes. Its owner is an old friend of the groom. The coconut cake was created by Dream Cakes, whose owner, an old friend of the groom’s, is the cake maker.
The couple’s first dance was to Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon,” which symbolized their date in the vineyard on their first dating day. The couple danced with their friends and family to soul music played by DJ Cooky.

The bride created a detailed Excel sheet that included key people, places, and a day-by-day play-by-play. You should only do your wedding on the day! We made the right decision by hiring a coordinator for our wedding day.
Honeymoon
We chartered a Beneteau 30′ in the British Virgin Islands and sailed from island to island over ten days. The trip was life-changing, but not for the faint-hearted – we had logged many hours at the helm before a bareboat rental. Many small charter companies offer similar trips with a skipper.
